Sacramento authorities are working a gunfire incident that unfolded on the evening of April 18 at the Howe Community Park area while authorities were clearing a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.
Before the Gunfire
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park around 6:30 PM after receiving reports of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Shortly after, another report was received mentioning a potential altercation occurring at Howe Park.
An overhead unit searched from above but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Despite this, authorities discovered that a massive group had assembled at the park without official sanction.
When the Shots Rang Out
Officers set about removing people from the park by surrounding the park and making announcements telling those gathered to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were given for attendees to disperse.
As the crowd was being cleared that between 20 and 25 rounds cut through the air. The barrage of gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Responding personnel swiftly started identifying shooting victims.
Those Who Were Hit
In total, four people were discovered with shooting injuries. All four — including a female and three males ranging in age through their in their twenties — were transported to area medical facilities. Hospital staff reported that two victims were in serious condition, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one victim's wounds were minor. Thankfully, all four check here were in stable condition.
Sacramento fire crews were called to the scene and helped triage those with gunshot wounds prior to hospital transport.
What Investigators Found
The primary shooting scene appears to have happened adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor alongside the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. CSI personnel located extra shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were noted in the iron perimeter fence surrounding the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence showed that one of the gunmen had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down while the scene was active. Crime scene technicians and detectives continued working late into the evening.
Suspects Detained
Reports confirmed through scanner monitoring established that a Kia had been stopped in an area within Solano County. Four occupants were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were heading to pick up the four detainees to pick up those detained for questioning. Video evidence established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
